* Hip Hop

Write a 1.5 to 3-page double-spaced essay addressing the following:

1. Historical Background: (1  paragraph)

   * When and where did the genre originate?
  * What cultural or social conditions influenced its development?

2. Musical Characteristics: (1 paragraphs)

   * Common instruments, rhythms, forms, and vocal/instrumental techniques.
  * Use music vocabulary where appropriate.

3. Major Artists (2 paragraphs)

   * Identify at least two important artists associated with the genre. (Insert Pictures)
  * Explain their contributions and influence.   

4. Song Analysis: (1 paragraph)

   * Choose one song from an African American artist in your chosen genre.
  * Name the artist and song title.
  * Use musical terms (melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, dynamics, form, etc.) to describe what you hear.
  * Discuss why you personally like the song.
